Our hearts are heavy today as we share news of the passing of District 4 Councilmember William “Bill” Lauritsen.

Councilmember Lauritsen served District 4 since 2020. During his tenure on City Council, he was a member of the Economic Development Committee and tackled important issues impacting the residents of his district, including the Titan Missile Site remediation project. In addition, Councilmember Lauritsen was a member of the Northern California chapters of the American Foreign Service Association, the Sierra Club and Phi Beta Kappa. Active in politics, he was also a member of the Lincoln Democratic Club, the Placer County Democratic Central Committee, and a delegate to the California Democratic State Convention. He was also a proud member of Lincoln Rotary.

Councilmember Lauritsen was born and raised in New Jersey.  After receiving a B.A. from Rutgers University, where he majored in History and Political Science, he went on to earn an MBA in Finance, also from Rutgers, eventually becoming a Certified Public Accountant.

Joining the United States Foreign Service in 1985, he began a career as a finance officer with the U.S. Department of State. He ended his career at the State Department with the Bureau of Legislative Affairs at the Department's Capitol Hill Office and later coordinated overseas Congressional travel for the Department. After initially retiring near Washington D.C., Councilmember Lauritsen moved to Sun City Lincoln Hills in 2017.

Our hearts go out to Councilmember Lauritsen’s family and loved ones during this difficult time. We ask that the community join us in remembering the work he accomplished through his four years on City Council.

Councilmember Lauritsen’s family kindly asks that they be provided privacy during this difficult time. More information will be forthcoming at a later time.
