What is it?

A short essay contest for teens, with the winners receiving a shopping spree to buy books for the library and for themselves! 

What is the theme?

Please write 250-500 words on:

How have books, reading, or libraries impacted your life? 

What are the prizes?

  • Prizes are provided by the Friends of the Lincoln Public Library. 

  • Two winners will be chosen.

  • Each winner will select $200 worth of books to be added to the library collection. Staff will review the selections to avoid things like duplicates, but we want to know what you are excited about reading! 

  • Each winner will also receive $50 to spend on books for themselves. 

How long does the contest run?

  • Opens: October 1, 2024

  • Closes: November 1, 2024 

Winners will be notified in November 2024. 

Who can submit?

You can submit to the contest if:

  • You live in or attend school in Placer County. 

  • You are currently enrolled in grades 9-12 OR you are 14-17 years old. 

What are the rules?

  • Entries must be submitted by residents of Placer County or attend a school in Placer County.

  • Entries must be received by November 1, 2024.

  • Entries must respond to the prompt. 

  • Entries must be the original work of the author, and not produced by artificial intelligence. 

  • Entries must be in English or Spanish.

  • Participants may submit one response between 250 and 500 words. 

  • By submitting works for consideration, writers grant the Lincoln Public Library the right to publish the entries, in whole or in part, with or without attribution. (This means we can use your essay in reports and on social media - but you can also use it as a writing sample or college application essay!)

  • Winners consent to be photographed, and for their images to be used by the Library for marketing purposes. 

  • There are no entry fees to participate.
